Tasty Thursday ~ FUDGE!!

on December 20, 2012

Well, here we go with the first post by my wonderful new food blogger, Kaylee, who happens to be my little sister! I’m so excited for her to be doing this for me. We’re hopefully going to have her join us every week. She’s a GOOD cool! I remember when we were all still at home and Kaylee would always be baking something. Usually brownies or cookies, but it was always nice to have her take care of it! I’ve never really enjoyed baking and cleaning up the mess!

So, without further ado, here’s my sis:

My grandma made the best fudge!! My husband and I have tried over and over and over again to make her recipe and somehow it NEVER turns out. So we settled with the fudge recipe on the carnation evaporated milk can and we’ve been using that one for the last few years. I’m not a huge fan of that recipe though, the fudge is just too hard. Grandma’s fudge was so soft and creamy!
This year I bought Kroger’s evaporated milk instead of carnation. There was a recipe on the can so we thought we’d give it a try. After starting to make it though, we realized it called for marshmallow cream and all we had were marshmallows so we changed it up a bit.
We didn’t love the result so we decided to try again and we changed it a little more. This time the result was amazing!! It was perfect, just like Grandma’s fudge!! So now we have our own recipe and I hope you try it and love it as much as we do!
Here’s the original Kroger recipe:
Easy Do Fudge
¾ cup butter or margarine (1 ½ sticks)
3 cups granulated sugar
2/3 cup evaporated milk
1 (12 oz.) package semi sweet chocolate chips
1 ½ cups marshmallow cream (we used 2 cups marshmallows)
½ tsp vanilla extract (we used ¾ tsp.)
Combine butter, sugar, and milk in large heavy saucepan. Over low heat, bring to full boil, stirring constantly. Continue boiling for 5 minutes, stirring to avoid scorching. Remove from heat. Add remaining ingredients. Stir vigorously, making certain all particles are dissolved. Pour into a greased 13×9-inch pan. Cool completely.
Makes about 3 pounds of fudge.
And here’s what we ended up making:
¾ cup butter (1 ½ sticks)
3 cups granulated sugar
2/3 cup evaporated milk plus 3 tbsp.
1 (12 oz.) package semi sweet chocolate chips
4 cups marshmallows
¾ tsp vanilla extract

Mmmmm!! Doesn’t that look so good? Wish I was there to try it! Not sure if I’ll get around to making any this year. We’ll see if I can finish up my sewing and have time to do anything else:)
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you’ll come back next week for another yummy post!
